Welcome to Houghton and Wyton
The Thatched Clock Tower in the village of Houghton, Huntingdonshire.
Houghton and Wyton
Both villages of Houghton and Wyton pre-date the Domesday Survey
of 1086 and although only half a mile apart each has an illustrious
history for totally different reasons. Houghton is today famous for
its working water mill now a National Trust property and open to the
public, whilst Wyton's history is irrevocably connected with the
wartime Pathfinder Squadron which was based at the still operational
RAF Wyton situated on the high ground above the village. You can
find out more about the parish and both villages by following the
historical notes link in the left hand menu.
A large portion of the northern part of the parish now forms part
of the new parish of Wyton on the
Hill as a result of the sale of former MOD houses adjacent to
RAF Wyton.
Houghton and Wyton is one of the parishes of the District of
Huntingdonshire, whose administrative centre is
Huntingdon, the other
principle towns being
St Ives home of the
Chapel on the Bridge,
St Neots
the largest town in the County of Cambridgeshire and
Ramsey
site of the former Abbey.
